250.765.5955
CPGA Assistant Professional | GBC Academy Instructor

Tyler McGhie was born in Pembroke, Ontario and begun his career playing junior golf throughout Ontario and Quebec and was able to compete at a very high level while in the junior ranks. To continue his learning and improvement he traveled south to Florida during his high school winter holidays and spring breaks to receive instruction at David Leadbetter’s Junior Academy in Bradenton, FL. While there he was able to work with some of the counties top instructors. During his time in Florida he played in the David Leadbetter International junior tournament and caught the eye of Coastal Carolina University head golf coach Allen Terrell. He was offered a golf scholarship and headed south to attend University in South Carolina.

He graduated with a business degree from Coastal Carolina University. During his time at Coastal he played along side 3 time PGA Tour winner Dustin Johnson, current European Tour player Alvero Velsco and 2002 British Amateur Champion Alejandro Larrazabal.

When describing his teaching mythology, McGhie describes himself as a teacher that teaches according to the student not one swing fits all. As an amateur and now as a professional he has learned from some of the world’s best instructors including- Brian Mogg (instructor at Brian Mogg Performance Center and current instructor to Y.E. Yang), Tim Sheredy (former senior instructor at David Leadbetter Academy and current head of instruction at Champions Academy), Conor O’Shea (Core Golf Academy), Dennis Sheehy (Stephen Ames former instructor), and Christian Smith (Mental Conditioning coach at the IMG Performance Institute)
